Splendor

I'd heard about Splendor from other board gamers in my circle, but it wasn’t until recently that I broke down and finally picked it up on my last visit to our FLGS. We sat down and spent a solid hour playing the game, and I must confess that Splendor has become a game night staple!

Although I’ve managed to lose every game we’ve played so far (damn you, Kayla!), I’m quite impressed with Splendor’s unique flavor, subtle strategy, and simplicity. It took us all of about 15 minutes to learn the ropes and then we were off.

In Splendor, you take on the role of a Renaissance-era jewel merchant and must strategically purchase gem mines, hire jewelers, and lock down real estate, each tier costing more of your precious jewels than the last. Eventually, after acquiring the listed sums of assets, a noble may approach and back you, netting you a healthy number of Prestige Points - of which you need 15 to claim the victory.

If you haven’t tried Splendor yet I definitely recommend it! It’s an excellent addition to any board game collection and will likely be among the crown jewels of your gaming shelfie.
